07/12 - Living with Lupus Workshop Offered in PG County
10am - 1pm
The Living with Lupus Workshops are designed to introduce the newly diagnosed lupus patient to effective management of the disease and to give a refresher on the basics to anyone who needs it. The seminar will offer current, medically accurate information on lupus, its symptoms, treatments, and coping techniques. The workshop will feature Dr. Donald Thomas of the Arthritis and Pain Associates of PG County. Dr. Thomas is a frequent and popular lecturer for the LFAGW, known for his ability to make difficult medical concepts understandable and accessible for patients. Dr. Thomas says he does these workshops because, "It is my experience that patients with lupus who educated themselves the most about lupus and how to manage the disease, appear to do the best in the long run. The 'Living with Lupus' Workshops can benefit the new patient, those who have been living with lupus for a long time, as well the significant others of lupus patients."
The Living with Lupus Workshops are offered as a free service of the LFAGW. All costs of services for patients and families are underwritten by the fundraising efforts of the LFAGW, including the Walk for Lupus Now held in April of each year.
Lupus is a chronic, potentially life-threatening autoimmune disease that affects more than 35,000 people in the D.C. area. Lupus causes the immune system to become overactive, creating antibodies that attack healthy tissues such as the skin, kidneys, lungs, heart, and brain. For information about lupus please contact the Lupus Foundation of America, Greater Washington Chapter at 202-349-1167 or info@lupusgw.org
Registration is limited. Please send your name, email, and address to info@lupusgw.org to reserve your spot.
